Our Role in
the Community
As a traditional village school, we enjoy a
long and happy association with village life; many parents
and grandparents were themselves pupils at Hilmarton School.
We believe very strongly in attaining the highest possible
academic standards for each individual child, whilst
maintaining as wide a curriculum as we can so that each
child finds their own strengths and talents. We
actively encourage all our children to contribute to
community life whenever possible, to help them to become
responsible and caring citizens of the future. Recent
events include musical items from pupils at a Pheonix Group meeting,
a Key Stage 2 summer music concert comprising a selection of
instrumental items and a whole school Arts Day covering all
aspects of the arts which gave
everyone the opportunity to try new activities. We also
performed our Maypole dancing at the Hilmarton Summer Fayre.

We are very pleased to have excellent links
with The John Bentley School in Calne, the secondary school
which most of our children attend, and take every
opportunity to make use of their excellent facilities.
Teachers visit throughout the year to give language tuition
and we have taken part in Calne community schools’ athletics
competitions and other cluster group sports events hosted by
The John Bentley School. We in turn welcome their students
on work experience placements.
