Joining Our School - Admissions
All children who will reach their fifth birthday
during any educational year will be offered a school
place at the start of that school year (September).
For children born on or after April 1st
this will be part time at first, in accordance with
Wiltshire County Council’s admissions policy.
The allocation of places is the responsibility of
the County Council, but places are prioritised on:
-
Children living within our catchment area
-
Siblings
-
Other children outside the catchment area
Children starting school for the first time are
offered a carefully planned programme of induction
to ensure that this is a happy experience. Our
close links with local playgroups greatly assist in
a smooth transition.
For children joining us in other year groups,
application should be made via the County Council
who will decide whether or not there is a place
available.
Admission forms are available from school and the
main switchboard at County Hall will be able to
assist further. Their number is 01225 713781.
Parents should be aware that there might be a delay
before a place can be allocated and should make
application as soon as possible. We welcome visits
by appointment from prospective parents.
Transfers to and from Hilmarton Primary School
At the end of Year 6, children transfer to secondary
education, and the majority of our pupils move to
The John Bentley School in Calne. We have a history
of close links with the Year 7 teachers, and visits
are arranged for children and parents during their
final year with us. Parents are sent information
regarding secondary school provision and the
relevant application forms by the Education
Authority.
If your child is not in Year 6 but is going to be
leaving Hilmarton School we would appreciate a
letter notifying us as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made for their records to be
transferred to their new school.
